Waste of a Tidy House

This weekend, to celebrate my wife's birthday, we invited lots of friends and family over for a pizza party. To get ready for this, we both took the week off of work and have been using the days that the boys are in nursery to prepare toppings and clean the house.

It is amazing how much easier it is to clean when the two boys are not messing things up just as fast as you are cleaning. It is amazing how much easier it is to cook when they don't start fighting in the next room. So today has involved lots of tidying, sorting and scrubbing. Just as we felt like we were making progress and we could see the light at the end of the tunnel, we got a phonecall on the landline. We were very close to ignoring it. Who uses the landline? Must be a spam call! All the same, I answered it.

Turned out it was the nursery. One of the boys was ill. While I drove over to collect him, Denise let everyone else know that the party was cancelled.

So now we have a mostly clean house, and a very large birthday cake, with no one else joining us to appreciate it.
