The Power of the Railways

I spent the last weekend up at Nethybridge in the Highlands. While I have been there many times, I learnt something new this time.

Apparently 1 the village was originally called Abernethy, but when the railway station was built, this would have caused confusion with the other Abernethy near Perth. So the station was instead named Nethybridge. As a result, the whole village was renamed to Nethybridge as well.

  1. According to Wikipedia. I haven't done any further research
